How to use the small text generator

  1. Type or paste your text into the box. Small caps, superscript and subscript versions appear right away and update as you type.
  2. Look through the three styles and pick the one you like. Check that every letter looks the way you expect.
  3. Press "Copy" next to that style, then paste the text into your bio, post, comment, chat or document.

What small caps, superscript and subscript are

These styles do not shrink your text. Each one swaps ordinary letters for different Unicode characters that look smaller or sit higher or lower on the line. Small caps replace lowercase letters with capital-shaped letters about the height of a lowercase letter. Many of these characters were added to Unicode for phonetic notation and other special uses. Superscript letters sit raised, like the mark in a footnote. Subscript letters sit lowered, like the 2 in H₂O.

Because the results are characters and not font files, nothing is downloaded or installed, and the text stays small when you paste it into another app. The tool converts only Latin letters A–Z, plus digits in some styles. Everything else stays as typed. Not every letter has a form in every style, and subscript has the fewest, so a few letters may look unchanged or slightly different.

Where small text works well

Small caps suit short labels and headings. In an Instagram bio (150 characters) you can set a line like a city, a job title or a section label in small caps to separate it from the rest. A Discord nickname (32 characters) or an X display name (50 characters) can use it for a subtle, tidy look. Superscript works for footnote-style asides, a tiny tag after a word, or ordinals like 1ˢᵗ. Subscript is mostly useful for chemical formulas and playful, quiet side comments.

Be careful with account names. Facebook profile names, Epic and Fortnite display names, and some game nicknames may reject special characters. If you want small text there, test it first. If it is refused, put the styled text in your bio, a post or a comment instead, where these restrictions rarely apply.

Tips and limitations

Keep small text short. A few words or one line is easy to read, while whole paragraphs in superscript or subscript quickly become tiring, especially on a phone screen. Paste your text and check the preview before you publish. If a letter turns into an empty box, that device or app lacks a glyph for it. Old devices and apps with limited fonts are the usual cause. Try another style or leave that word in plain text.

Screen readers often read these characters badly, sometimes letter by letter or not at all. Use small text for decoration, not for anything people must understand, such as prices, dates, addresses, phone numbers or instructions. Text in special characters also may not match a normal search, so keep your name or key terms in plain letters somewhere nearby.

Frequently asked questions

Is small text a real font?

No. It is made of Unicode characters that look like smaller or shifted letters. Nothing is installed, and the text copies like any other text. How it looks depends on the fonts available in the app or device where you paste it.

Why do some letters look normal in the subscript style?

Unicode does not include a subscript version of every letter. Where a form is missing, the letter may stay as it is or appear in a different shape. Small caps and superscript cover more letters, so try those if subscript looks incomplete.

Can I use small text in my Instagram bio or Discord name?

Yes, in most cases. Keep the Instagram bio within 150 characters and a Discord nickname within 32. Account names on some platforms may reject special characters, so test first and use your bio or posts if the name is refused.

Will small text show up correctly for everyone?

Usually, but not always. Old devices or apps with limited fonts may show empty boxes instead of some characters. Screen readers can also read them poorly. Use small text as decoration and keep important information in plain text.
