How to use the WhatsApp fonts generator
- Type or paste your message into the box. Every style (bold, italic, script, monospace, strikethrough, underline, small caps, bubble and double-struck) updates instantly as you type.
- Look through the list and pick the style you like. Press the "Copy" button next to it.
- Open WhatsApp and paste the text into a chat, a text status or your About line. It works on phones and computers.
What these WhatsApp styles are and where they come from
The styles on this page are not font files. They are Unicode characters, part of a large standard set of symbols that includes mathematical letters, enclosed letters and combining marks. Bold, italic, script, monospace and double-struck letters come from the mathematical alphanumeric symbols, bubble letters are circled letters, and small caps use lookalike characters from other alphabets. Underline and strikethrough are made by adding a combining mark after each letter. Because they are ordinary characters, nothing is downloaded or installed, and the result pastes like any other text.
WhatsApp has its own formatting too: *bold*, _italic_, ~strikethrough~ and ```monospace``` wrap your words in symbols, and WhatsApp shows them as styled text. That method is quick and works well inside WhatsApp. The Unicode styles here are an alternative. The letters themselves change, so the look survives when you copy the message into another app. They also give you styles WhatsApp does not offer, such as script, small caps, bubble and double-struck.
Where to use fancy text in WhatsApp
A short About line is a good place to start. You could write your name in script, or a favorite quote in small caps, and leave the rest plain. For a text status, a bubble or double-struck heading above a plain sentence can stand out in a list of updates. In messages, strikethrough works well for playful corrections, and monospace gives lists or short codes an even, typed look.
Group chats are another use. Start an announcement or a shopping list with a bold title, write the name of an event in script, or mark each part of a long message with a bubble heading. Keep the details people need, such as the time, the address and phone numbers, in plain text so everyone can read, search and copy them easily. Style a few words rather than a whole paragraph, because a little contrast is easier to read than a message that is styled from start to finish.
Tips and limitations
These characters depend on the device being able to show them. On older phones or in apps with limited fonts, some letters can appear as empty boxes, so send a test message to yourself or a friend before you rely on a style. Screen readers also often read these characters badly, sometimes announcing symbol names instead of words. Use the styles for decoration, and never for information someone must understand, such as a meeting time, an address or a warning.
Only the letters A to Z are converted, and a few styles also convert digits. Accented letters, punctuation, emoji and other alphabets stay as you typed them. Styled letters are also not searchable as normal words on most platforms, so keep names, keywords and anything people might search for in plain text. The same goes for words you may want to find in an old chat later.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install a font to use these styles in WhatsApp?
No. The styles are Unicode characters, not font files, so nothing is downloaded or installed. You type your text, press Copy next to a style and paste it into WhatsApp like any other text.
Should I use this generator or WhatsApp's own formatting?
WhatsApp's own symbols (*bold*, _italic_, ~strikethrough~ and ```monospace```) are quick inside WhatsApp. Use this generator when you want styles like script, small caps, bubble or double-struck, or when the text will be copied into other apps.
Will the people I message see the same style?
Usually yes, but not always. On older devices or in apps with limited fonts, some characters can show as empty boxes. If a message matters, send a test to yourself or a friend first.
Why do some characters stay unchanged?
Only the Latin letters A to Z get converted, and some styles also convert digits. Accented letters, punctuation, emoji and letters from other alphabets stay as you typed them, so they may look plain next to the styled text.
