How to use the upside down text generator
- Type or paste your text into the box. The upside-down, mirrored and reversed versions all appear right away and update as you type.
- Find the style you want and press the "Copy" button next to it.
- Paste the result into a bio, post, comment or chat. If it is a flipped line, turn your phone over to check that it reads correctly.
What upside-down, mirrored and reversed text really are
Upside-down text is not rotated. Each letter is replaced by a different Unicode character that looks like that letter turned 180 degrees. A lowercase "e" becomes "ǝ" and an "a" becomes "ɐ". These characters come from other alphabets and from phonetic symbols. The generator also puts the letters in backward order, so when you turn your phone over, the line reads from left to right as normal.
Mirrored text works the same way but imitates a reflection in a mirror, using lookalike characters where they exist. Some letters have no good mirror twin, so the closest match is used and the result can look uneven. Reversed text is the simplest: the same characters in backward order, so "hello" becomes "olleh". Only the letters A to Z are swapped in the flipped and mirrored styles. Other characters stay as they are.
Where to use flipped, mirrored and reversed text
These styles work best as small touches. Put one flipped line in your Instagram bio, which allows 150 characters. Add a mirrored word to a caption. Post a reversed sentence in a group chat as a puzzle and let friends decode it. Flipped text also suits a joke punchline, a "turn your phone" message, or an answer you want to hide at first glance in a quiz.
Display names are limited. A Discord nickname can have 32 characters and an X (Twitter) display name 50, and flipped text uses up that space like any other text. Some places may reject special characters in account names, such as Facebook profile names, Epic or Fortnite display names, and some game nicknames. If that happens, use the text in your bio, a post or a comment instead. Or try a pasted name first before you rely on it.
Tips and limitations to know before you paste
Keep flipped and mirrored text short. A few words are fun to puzzle out, but a whole paragraph is tiring to read. Paste your result somewhere and look at it on a phone before you share it. On older devices, or in apps with limited fonts, some characters may show up as empty boxes. If you see boxes in the preview, pick another style or use the reversed one, which uses ordinary letters.
Screen readers often read these characters badly, sometimes skipping them or naming each symbol. Use them for decoration only. Do not use them for a phone number, an address, a date, a price, or any instruction someone has to understand. Digits, punctuation and letters outside A to Z are not flipped in the upside-down and mirrored styles, so mixed text can look partly turned. Write the important part in plain text next to it.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the upside-down text read correctly when I turn my phone over?
The generator swaps each letter for a lookalike of that letter turned 180 degrees and also reverses the order of the letters. Turning the screen upside down puts the first letter back on the left, so the line reads normally.
What is the difference between mirrored text and reversed text?
Mirrored text replaces letters with lookalikes that imitate a reflection, so the shapes themselves change. Reversed text keeps the normal letters and only writes them in backward order, so it works in more apps and is easier to display.
Why do some letters show as empty boxes?
The characters are Unicode symbols, not font files. If your device or app has no font that includes a symbol, it shows an empty box. This happens mostly on old devices and in apps with limited fonts. Try another style or the reversed one.
Can I use flipped text for my username or profile name?
Sometimes. Instagram bios, Discord nicknames (32 characters) and X display names (50) usually accept it, but Facebook profile names, Epic or Fortnite names and some game nicknames may refuse it. Test first, or use a bio or post instead.
